Precision built for fundamental necessity during the 1940s, the Universal Genève Medico-Compax is designed for the medical profession. Based off the more common Uni-Compax collection produced by the firm, the Medico-Compax features a two-register chronograph and a rare red pulsometer scale on the outer track of the dial adorned by collectors. To calculate heartrate, the wearer simply has to count 15 beats and stop the chronograph to get the equivalent heart rate per minute.
Remarkably well preserved, and a desirable variant among the Compax lineage, the present example is cased in the larger 38mm diameter stainless steel and paired with an exquisite dial in superb condition. The luminous Arabic numeral hour markers have aged with a warm yellow patina and reacts perfectly under the geiger counter. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a supremely attractive time-capsule piece for any vintage chronograph collectors.
Universal Genève was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1894 and was originally known as "Universal Watch." Since its inception, Universal Genève has produced watches with unusually high quality for their price point. Universal was among the first brands to introduce a chronograph wristwatch.
Today, the firm's vintage models are highly sought-after and desired for their oversized cases and interesting dial designs. Key models include a variety of "Compax" models such as the "Nina Rindt" or "Evil Nina," the Uni-Compax, the Space-Compax, the Aero-Compax and the Film-Compax.
