With the establishment of the firm in 2002 by Denis Flageollet and David Zanetta, De Bethune was up and running in full swing impressing the industry with their futuristic and innovative approach to independent watchmaking. In 2011, the firm released the DB28 and it was immediately a success as it was a wristwatch like no other have ever seen. Being one of the most discussed timepieces during its launch, the DB28 was awarded the “Aiguille d’Or” at the GPHG 2011 the highest distinction award from the organization. Extremely well received by collectors, the DB28 has become the “signature” piece from the firm.

With a futuristic aesthetic, one of the feature that is distinct to De Bethune is their blue polished grade 5 titanium implemented in many De Bethune timepieces since its founding over 19 years ago. To achieve such result, an intense process of thermal oxidation on the surface of the material must be achieved by heating the alloy at a high temperature. The oxidation process of titanium goes through various stages and displays various colors in each stage indicating that extreme precision and control is the utmost important asset to generate consistency.

While the case is impressive with floating lugs that enable a comfortable fitting to varying wrist sizes, the dial is nothing short of an excitement. Displayed in a semi-skeletonized manner with a symmetrical layout that mimics the aesthetics of a spacecraft, the balance wheel escapement is composed of silicon enhancing its robustness by eliminating friction. Underneath the balance lies another feature that is perhaps an iconic trait to the firm, the three dimensional moon phase finished in blue and polished titanium subtly matching the dual tone colors of the case.

The present example De Bethune DB28 TIS5 is preserved in excellent overall condition and is complete with its full set of accessories. A fantastic chance for admirers of innovative timepieces to acquire an award winning wristwatch from one of the most respected independent firms in the industry.
