Founded by Ariste Racine in 1913, the brand Enicar was established by taking inspiration from the reverse of his last name Racine. Ever since, the firm devotes to produce high quality timepieces, and continuously improving its techniques such as perfecting of an exclusive technique for cleaning movements using ultrasound before lubricating, the ‘Ultrasonic’.

With a desire to create robust tool watches, the reputation of Enicar seized success during the 1950s when the brand was marketed in association with some of the best sportsmen during the time, from motor racing legends among the likes of Stirling Moss, Geoff Duke, to tennis player Ken Rosewall and diving pioneer Hans Haas. In May 1956, a party of Swiss mountaineers succeeded in conquering Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse with Enicar Sherpas watches, also known as Seapearl, as their companion during their summit. This marked the first success of the expedition any nationality at Lhotse, the fourth-highest mountain in the world. Over the following decade, the Sherpa line would further define the Enicar lineage as it released broad variants from aquatic to aviation pursuits like the Sherpa graph, Super Graph, Aqua Graph and Jet graph.

The Jet Graph was purpose built for pilots and travellers. One of the prominent features one would notice is the black and silvered aluminium GMT free-rotating bezel with a 24-hour division. Encased in the Super Compressor Bayonet case made by manufacturer Ervin Piquerez S.A. (EPSA) exclusively for Enicar with brevet patent number 314962, the present example is part of the Mark III generation of the Jet family with the Valjoux 724 GMT chronograph movement. Notable for its red and black checker-styled GMT hands with neon lumes, red pointer ring, baton hands, red lollipop second hand and a waffle crown with Saturn insignia. Offered in an excellent well-preserved condition, this rare black subdial variant is sure a delight for the collector of fine vintage timepieces.
