  • Catalogue Essay

Released in 2005, the Breguet Tradition, reflecting its name, features an avant-garde and refreshing appeal on Abraham-Louis Breguet’s legacy.

Taking its inspiration from the manufacturer’s Souscription watches of the 18th century, the movement architecture of the Tradition clearly pays its rightful homage to its ancestral timepieces. What is perhaps the most interesting feature is that one may notice that the organs that are usually featured on the back of the movement is now proudly displayed on the dial side allowing the wearer to admire the gear trains and the beating organ of the movement. While the movement architecture of the present timepiece takes center stage, the main dial indicating the hours and minutes are executed to the classic configuration of Breguet featuring a guilloché finished surface with silver brushed hour and minute ring indicated via Breguet style hands. A power reserve indication is positioned on the left side of the main dial of up to 50 hours.

The present example Breguet Tradition ref. 7027 in yellow gold from circa 2006 is offered with its full set of accessories and is further preserved in excellent overall condition.

  • Artist Biography

    Breguet

    Swiss • 1775

Established in 1775 by Abraham Louis Breguet, widely considered the greatest watchmaker of all time, the storied brand continues to thrive in the modern era, creating exceptional high-end watches as the Swatch Group's premier prestige brand. Some of the most important and lasting inventions in watchmaking are attributed to Abraham Louis Breguet, including the tourbillon, shock resistance and the use of hammers and gongs employed in nearly all minute repeating watches made since.

Eighteenth and nineteenth century Breguet pocketwatches are especially sought-after by collectors, and many of them were made for the elite of European society, including Napoléon and Marie Antoinette. Key wristwatches from the twentieth century include oversized dress watches, two-register chronographs, triple calendars and Type XX aviator's chronographs made for the French military and civilians.
