  • Catalogue Essay

The present watch is a superb example of the celebrated "Cioccolatone" model by Vacheron Constantin. Originally introduced into the market in the 1950s, it was a very innovative design considering the time of its launch. There are several “ Cioccolatone” models, the majority of them cased in yellow gold, including a manual wind, an automatic, a version with date only, and of course the famous triple date calendar. The time only and triple date versions were reissued by Vacheron Constantin later under the name Toledo 1952, though only the triple date is still in production. The present watch, manufactured in 1970 and housing the 1072/1 automatic movement, is in excellent condition, still retaining its original certificate and strap. The untouched and original champagne coloured dial is enhancing the beauty and rarity of this wonderful vintage wristwatch.
