  • Catalogue Essay

It is exactly this year that IWC’s legendary Portugieser celebrates its 75th anniversary. Its birth is the result of a special request by two Portuguese businessmen asking IWC to produce them wristwatches performing at the level of marine chronometers. The only possibility to achieve this task was to use a pocket watch movement, the firm’s in-house calibre 74. The present example, cased in white gold, is the newest version featuring a perpetual calendar. Hardly ever worn by the original owner, it is complete with all accessories delivered when purchased new.
