Vacheron Constantin has long been known for producing exquisite and highly complicated timepieces since the founding of the firm in 1755. Considered as one of the world’s oldest manufacturer of timepieces, Vacheron Constantin has developed a competitive advantage over others. With an archive that dates back a couple of hundred years, the firm is able to produce in-house movements inspired by the past.

Confirmed by archives, the very first watch created by founder of Vacheron Constantin, Jean-Marc Vacheron, featured an open-worked movement with engraved balance-cock, and setting the foundation since. The Malte Openworked Tourbillon is a testament of how traditional watchmaking remains as an important factor today, combining inspirations from the past with contemporary and innovative features. The result is a beautiful skeletonized wristwatch with engraved bridges to reflect the past, fitted with a tourbillon to display the capabilities of the modern manufacture today. The bridges, mainplate and barrel are hand engraved by Vacheron Constantin artisans requiring extreme precision to execute.

The present example is offered with an Extract from the Archives issued by Vacheron Constantin confirming the production of the present example in 2006 encased in platinum and further accompanied by the original presentation box.

    Vacheron Constantin

    Swiss • 1755

The world's oldest watch brand in continuous operation since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin was the first watch company to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts beginning in 1839. Vacheron's watches are admired for their Latin-influenced case designs, well-balanced proportions and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality. The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015.

Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984.
