In 2006, Patek Philippe celebrated their 30th anniversary of their iconic Nautilus model by introducing new references to replace the former models. Replacing its time-only ref. 3700 was the ref. 5711 disregarding the ref. 3710 as it features a power reserve indicator on the dial. Furthermore, Patek Philippe introduced the ref. 5712 featuring a power reserve indicator, moonphases and date. However, the ref. 5712 was not the first to feature such complications as it was ref. 3712 that was the first and replaced after a year by the ref. 5712.
With the Nautilus model getting more popular and highly sought after, the ref. 5712 is considered one of the hardest Nautilus references to acquire from the boutique. With an estimation of Patek Philippe’s total production of stainless steel wristwatches to be about 22% of their entire annual production, the ref. 5712 in stainless steel is most certainly rare in today’s standards with resurfaced examples achieving extremely high prices in the market. The present example from circa 2008 belongs to an early example of the reference with its movement still stamped with the Geneva seal. Presented in excellent overall condition with extremely minimal signs of use and wear and presented with the original Certificate of Origin and presentation box, it is truly a magnificent chance for collectors to skip the queue and acquire a beautiful example of the sought after model.
Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.
Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
