Initially introduced in 2014 for ladies, the F.P. Journe Élégante turned heads immediately when it introduced and patented its innovative mechanism powering the timepiece. The world’s first, it took the manufacturer eight years to develop an electro mechanical caliber with motion detection capable of hibernating wear the hands stop after 30 minutes of inactivity and automatically readjusting itself to the correct time when worn again. Positioned at 4 O’clock, the motion detector is essentially a small oscillating weight which activates the watch again when motion is detected.
After its successful reception, F.P. Journe introduced the larger model for men in 2016, with a larger case dimension measuring 48mm. Introduced in several materials including Titalyt® a grey coated titanium material super light in weight, the timepiece provides utmost comfort paired along with a rubber strap. With an attractive case design, featuring naked screws on the bezel and perfectly downturned lugs allows the wearer to enjoy the perfect fit on the wrist. Furthermore, the luminous dial provides intense luminosity in dark allowing the wearer to view the entire dial at night.
The present example is offered in excellent overall condition with no signs of imperfections and accompanied by the original guarantee and presentation box.
Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
