  • Motifs that represent memories and accompanying mixed emotions of the ups and downs in unban living, characterise Korean animamix (Animation + Comics) artist Eddie Kang’s work. For Kang, bright colours, fun textures and endearing characters, such as the pink Bubble Bearcup that symbolises pure happiness, featured in Stand Still in the Middle of Tension, are prime devices for injecting a shot of positivity in his work. The philisophical connotation comes through in the title, groudning the lightheartedness of the motif with the artist’s musings on meeting challenges of living in the concrete jungle wth childlike innocence and positivity.

Kang’s work is in the collection of celebrities such as Jay Chou, JJ Lin and Jun Ji-hyun, as well as having been exhibited and collected by public institutions such as the Hong Kong Asia Society. His latest solo exhibition in Hong Kong took place at L+ Lucie Chang Fine Arts (15 September 2021 - 13 November 2021).
