    John McEnroe’s Mark Bradford Masterwork To be Sold at Phillips

    NEW YORK

    This season, Phillips will present Mark Bradford’s Helter Skelter I from the Collection of John McEnroe, 7-time Grand Slam Champion and avid collector of contemporary art. The large-scale work was executed in 2007 and stands over 10 meters wide, evocative of the urban landscape of Los Angeles. Phillips currently hold the top two auction prices for Bradford’s work, having sold Constitution IV, 2013 in October 2015 and Rat Catcher of Hamelin III, 2011 in October 2016. Expected to realise in excess of £6 million, Helter Skelter I has never been publicly offered and is poised to set a new auction record for the artist when it is presented in the Evening Sale of 20th Century & Contemporary Art in London on 8 March, 2018.

    George Condo Leads Phillips’ First New York Auction of 2018

    On 28 February, Phillips will kick off the 2018 auction season in New York with its New Now sale. Offering nearly 250 lots, this auction will bring together works by emerging contemporary artists and those with firmly established careers, and will be the first of Phillips’ 20th Century & Contemporary Art auctions to include Latin American works since the announcement of Phillips’ full incorporation of the two categories.     Phillips Announces Full Year Figures for 2017

    NEW YORK

    Phillips is pleased to announce that overall sales in 2017 rose 25% to $708.8 million from $567.2 million a year earlier, driven by a strong market for contemporary art, increased sales in Hong Kong and strong performances by all of the company’s departments. Auction sales increased 25% to $625.4 million from $499.4 million in 2016, and private sales ended the year at $83.5 million, a 23% gain from $67.8 million last year.
