This work by Mr Doodle is part of a collection of works that features iconic paintings playfully reimagined and reworked through his iconic doodling scribbles, dubbed by the artist as “graffiti spaghetti”. Based on universally renowned masterpieces ranging from Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa to Gustav Klimt's Kiss, the present lot Guernidoodle is inspired by Pablo Picasso’s Guernica.
One of Picasso’s best known works, Guernica is a large oil painting on canvas from 1937 that has been regarded by many as one of the most moving anti-war paintings in history. A powerful political statement, Picasso painted it as a response to the Nazi’s bombings on the Basque town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, depicting the tragedies of suffering that war inflicts on innocent civilians.
