The present three-legged stool by Danish designer Mogens Lassen is a remarkable work with a striking sculptural form. Born in 1901 in Copenhagen, Lassen became a central figure of Danish modern design whose philosophy was characterised by a respect for simplicity and functionality. His creations also aimed to reveal the natural beauty of materials as is vividly manifested in the beautiful oak grain on this piece. Crafted with a keen sense of aesthetics, the stool shows a pleasing flow of organic curves.
The present model was exhibited at the Cabinetmakers’ Guild, Kunstindustrimuseet, Copenhagen, in 1942, stand 5.
