  • Catalogue Essay

Since its birth in 1931, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso has become one of the most significant models of the established firm. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, a limited series of six models were released within a decade, each fitted with one of the great classical complications. Along with these complications came new case sizes and a sapphire crystal caseback, which provided a window onto the mechanical marvel within. As the 21st-century advances, the Reverso continues to be a showcase for Jaeger-LeCoultre’s constant quest for technical creativity.

Released as a limited edition of 500 pieces in 1994, the Reverso Répétition Minutes cased in 18K pink gold is a classy, elegant and sophisticated timepiece featuring one of the most beloved ad complex complications. As the firm’s first minute repeating wristwatch, powered by the cal. 943 developed by established watchmaker Eric Coudray, the chime is simply magnificent and loud taking into consideration its rather petite case. While its case design remains traditional and iconic with a slider positioned on the left side of the caseband, the dial features the regulating organism visible at 5 o’clock.

Numbered 35, the present example is offered in excellent overall condition consigned by the original owner and complete with its full set of accessories. For any collectors looking to acquire an elegant minute repeating wristwatch with an iconic appeal, this is one not to miss out on.

  • Artist Biography

    Jaeger-LeCoultre

    Swiss • 1833

Not all companies in the watchmaking field have been able to stand the test of time quite like Jaeger LeCoultre, also known as the "watchmaker's watchmaker." Founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre and originally named LeCoutre, the firm provided watchmaking's top brands, such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, the high-grade, unfinished mechanical movements with which they completed their watches.

In the early 1900s, Cartier's watch supplier Edmond Jaeger sought out LeCoultre's help in creating the world's thinnest watches. The collaboration resulted in the creation of Cartier's earliest Tank and Santos watches, all housed with LeCoultre movements. The duo decided to merge in 1937, and the firm officially became the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand by which collectors know and adore it today. Some of the firm's most significant and important timepieces include the Reverso, the Memovox, the Atmos clock and, among modern watches, their Master Complications.
