In this playful artwork, Hu Qiren poses the question: “What would you do with a watermelon full of seeds?”. Paying homage to the Fluxus movement, which encouraged people to actively partake in creative activity, Melon Tunes prompts audience participation with lyrical humour. The black and white melon seeds scattered across the pages form chance compositions and accidental music scores that are both visually and aurally stimulating.

Hu is a visual artist whose practice explores myriad forms of image making and incorporates a wide range of media, including photography, video, installation and performance. He graduated from Parsons School of Design in 2015 and has exhibited works at distinguished venues and events such as the One World Trade Centre in New York, the Louvre in Paris and the Singapore International Photography Festival, amongst many others.
