Drawn by the abundant tropical green nature of the Philippines, Whee Delgado relates not only to the existence of lush green plants emitting the energy of life, but also being a lot like us; they are in fact a portrait of us. In Whee’s work, the concept of desire has always been an important element, and with the subject of tropical plants, Whee captures the vibrant, invigorating, visceral and sensual aspect of nature. Employing quick, dynamic, gestural brushstrokes, sometimes with controlled precise movement, the works convey the energy of living, creating, communicating and procreating through vivid colours like the plants manifesting their radiating life through luscious fruits and stunning colourful flowers.

Whee is an artist based in Seoul and Manila after her marriage to her Filipino Canadian husband. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Sculpture Degree at Rhode Island School of Design in 2011, and her Master of Fine Arts at Seoul National University in 2015. Whee won the competition for a two-person exhibition “Spring Up” at the Space CAN in Seoul in 2011 and the competition award for her solo exhibition “Idolic Bonanza” in Kunst Dog, Seoul, in 2013. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions in Seoul. In 2021 and 2022 she showcased her paintings at “Art Detour” and “Art Detour II”, a group show of young artists at the Leon Gallery, in Manila. In November 2023, she will have a solo exhibition at the Leon Gallery.
