  • Catalogue Essay

"The photographs of Thomas Ruff deal with the nature of photography itself, with classic genres of interior, portrait, architecture and nude photography and - consistent with his interest in the medium itself - the artist has been experimenting with different photographic technologies: shooting with a starlight system (Night photographs), taking stereoscopic pictures (3D Photographs), and using astronomical telescope shots (Stars). Ruff's work reflects the conditions of perception, the peculiarities of the photographic medium and the implicit political dimension of its use."
