“If a person wants a painting of mine, it is good. This is why I painted the Mini Canvases. So that everyone can easily own a painting of mine and whatever colour they want. The paintings are all very small, so they are easy to put in your luggage.”
—Thierry Noir
Thierry Noir reached fame in the 1980s as a pioneer of street art, determined that his bold paintings should embellish public spaces and not be confined to museums and galleries. The Mini Canvases are pushing this agenda further, transforming his distinct visual language into portable canvases, designed to remove hurdles to art ownership.
The Mini Canvases stand out not only for their compact size but also their celebration of vibrant colours. Set against shades of deep yellow, light pink, Cadmium yellow, Parakeet green and Cerulean blue, each canvas features a face – four in profile and one frontal – in the artist’s distinct visual language. The result is a jewel-like suite of colour and form which, uniquely in the series, bear the artist’s signature on the reverse.
