Tay Bak Chiang pushes the boundaries of Chinese painting by using a combination of vibrant, compelling pigments and Chinese ink. Light as Clouds is part of the artist’s stone series, inspired by his walks through the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in Singapore. Captivated by the timeless rocks, which stand unperturbed by the surrounding jungle, Tay commits their striking silhouettes to paper.

Tay is highly regarded for paintings that depict natural subjects, such as lotus ponds, heliconias and rocks found in Southeast Asia. He has held 14 solo exhibitions to date and has also received several prestigious accolades, including First Prize in the Chinese painting category at the 19th and 20th UOB Painting of the Year Award in 2000 and 2003 respectively, as well as the Young Artist Award from the National Arts Council, Singapore in 2002.

This lot is physically located in Singapore.
