Tang Juey Lee is renowned for his paintings of Singapore’s national flower and finds inspiration in the orchid blooms at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Tang often combines depictions of these flowers with those of birds, offering his own take on the long tradition of hua niao hua, a bird-and-flower genre of Chinese painting. Across a prolific career spanning five decades, Tang has produced an extensive body of work that elegantly combines Western realism with the Chinese gong bi style of painting, developing a visual vocabulary that straddles the East and West.

Born in 1953 in Johor Bahru, Tang graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in the 1970s under the tutelage of distinguished artists Georgette Chen and See Hiang To. In 1977, he was bestowed with the National Day Special Award by the Singapore Ministry of Culture. Today, his paintings can be found in private collections in Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Australia and the US.
