Seema Kohli’s striking use of gold and blue renders a fantastical world that celebrates the female form as a divine source of cosmic energy. Deeply meditative and calm, Kohli's semi-anthropomorphic divinity surrounds herself with trees, birds and animals in the lap of nature. Kohli has extensively engaged with the figure of Shakti, the female goddess responsible for both creation and destruction, in her artistic practice. Engaging with a wide circuit of references such as religious iconography, world mythology, philosophy and literature, Kohli weaves together a story to recover the lost feminine narrative in cultural history.

Internationally renowned, Seema Kohli is an experimental multi-disciplinary artist whose practice spans the visual, literary and performing arts. Kohli explores themes of beauty, sensuality and spirituality in her works, often focusing on the concept of Hiranyagarbha or the Golden Womb. Standing at the forefront of Indian contemporary art, her artworks are currently in several prestigious collections including the British Museum in London, Kiran Nader Museum of Arts in India and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She has been bestowed several awards including the Gold Medal at the 2009 Florence Biennale.
