There is a quiet magic to enamel, a craft born in antiquity, perfected in Geneva, and now practised by only a dwindling handful of living artists.

It is against this backdrop of vanishing craftsmanship that the present trio of Piaget pocket watches assumes its full significance. Each is a unique interpretation of a motif by Hans Erni, the celebrated Swiss artist (1909–2015) who chose for his subject the horse: noble animal par excellence, and one of his enduring themes. Each pocket watch interprets Erni's vision through the cloisonné technique in a different predominating colour: green, blue, and red-brown.

To the back of each case, the coat of arms of the Piaget dynasty of Master Watchmakers has been engraved by hand, alongside the artist's name and signature. The consecutive numbers engraved on the inner casebacks: 802’257 (red-brown), 802’258 (blue), and 802’259 (green).

Offered for the first time at auction, from the original owner who kept in his collection for 28 years, the present set of three enamel pocket watches from Piaget offers something the market rarely encounters. For the collector who understands that true rarity lies not in limited numbers alone but in the convergence of artistry, provenance, and vanishing craft, this is an opportunity that may not come again any time soon.

Well-preserved with an attractive patina developed on each pocket watch, the present set is further accompanied by three Piaget certificates and a beautiful presentation box.

Piaget

Swiss | 1874

Creativity, audacity and know-how are the values that gave Piaget its international reputation and allowed the brand to distinguish itself in the world of fine watchmaking and precision. Founder Georges Edouard Piaget established the company in 1874 and manufactured watch movements. While Piaget is famously recognized today for their elaborate wristwatch and bangle designs, they also mastered the marriage of their high-quality, in-house-produced wristwatches and stunning pieces of jewelry.

Collectors consider the 1970s as Piaget's era of superb creativity and unbounded designs. During this highly creative period, the brand designed an impressive range of cuff and bracelet watches carved in gold and adorned with exotic hard stones. Admired by most as not only jewelry but also true works of art, the firm's hard stone dial watches remain the most iconic, recognizable and desirable among collectors.
