Full-Cataloguing
- Officially renamed the Andy Warhol watch
- Modern iteration of Andy Warhol’s 1970s quartz watch
- Pink gold case with matte black dial and baton indexes
Perhaps one of the most iconic Piaget men’s mechanical watches of today, the Andy Warhol watch is inspired by the 1970s Beta 21 quartz Black Tie watch owned by the legendary American pop artist. The minimalist dial, oversized case and stepped bezel make it a timeless classic that looks intriguing even in present day’s aesthetics.
In the Biennale des Antiquaires 2014, the Black Tie watch made a brief tease in the Extremely Piaget collection, then debuted officially in the 2015 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. While many people had been already addressing the watch as the “Andy Warhol”, soon following an agreement with the Andy Warhol Foundation, the model is officially renamed as the Andy Warhol watch.
The present reference was launched in 2017, back when it was still referred to as the Black Tie Vintage Inspiration, customizable in terms of case and dial. Instead of exotic stone dials, this Andy Warhol features a matte black dial with gold baton indexes, bearing great resemblance to the original Black Tie regardless of the elongated hour markers and the absence of a date display. Encased in the 18K pink gold is the in-house self-winding cal. 534P, a high grade ultra-thin movement for key Piaget watch series, like the Black Tie and Altiplano.
Preserved in excellent overall condition, this watch would be a prized collection for watch connoisseurs that fancy a classy dresswatch that is reminiscent of the 1970s Pop Art icon, a very presentable and elegant timepiece with a modern reinterpretation.
Piaget
Swiss | 1874Creativity, audacity and know-how are the values that gave Piaget its international reputation and allowed the brand to distinguish itself in the world of fine watchmaking and precision. Founder Georges Edouard Piaget established the company in 1874 and manufactured watch movements. While Piaget is famously recognized today for their elaborate wristwatch and bangle designs, they also mastered the marriage of their high-quality, in-house-produced wristwatches and stunning pieces of jewelry.
Collectors consider the 1970s as Piaget's era of superb creativity and unbounded designs. During this highly creative period, the brand designed an impressive range of cuff and bracelet watches carved in gold and adorned with exotic hard stones. Admired by most as not only jewelry but also true works of art, the firm's hard stone dial watches remain the most iconic, recognizable and desirable among collectors.
