Piaget has always been particularly good at turning a simple time-only watch into something much more special through the use of gemstones. The present reference 91103 is a great example, combining diamonds and emeralds in a way that feels both luxurious and elegant.
The emerald-set bezel is what gives the present example much of its character. The deep green of the stones brings a strong touch of color to the design and works beautifully with the sparkle of the diamonds. Emeralds are also more delicate than many other precious gemstones, making watches with elaborate emerald settings considerably less common. A piece such as this was without a doubt produced as a special order.
The dial continues the same theme, with diamonds set alongside eight baguette-cut emeralds on either side. Together with the bezel, the setting gives the watch a distinctive jewelry-like quality without taking away from its elegant proportions.
The result is a particularly attractive example of Piaget's gem-set watches, showing how the brand could take a relatively simple watch and give it a completely different character through the use of color, precious stones and careful setting.
Piaget
Swiss | 1874Creativity, audacity and know-how are the values that gave Piaget its international reputation and allowed the brand to distinguish itself in the world of fine watchmaking and precision. Founder Georges Edouard Piaget established the company in 1874 and manufactured watch movements. While Piaget is famously recognized today for their elaborate wristwatch and bangle designs, they also mastered the marriage of their high-quality, in-house-produced wristwatches and stunning pieces of jewelry.
Collectors consider the 1970s as Piaget's era of superb creativity and unbounded designs. During this highly creative period, the brand designed an impressive range of cuff and bracelet watches carved in gold and adorned with exotic hard stones. Admired by most as not only jewelry but also true works of art, the firm's hard stone dial watches remain the most iconic, recognizable and desirable among collectors.
