The present Piaget reference 5072 is a small but remarkably striking watch. Measuring just 20mm, its compact proportions are given considerable presence by the combination of a white gold case, deep blue baguette-cut sapphires and brilliant diamonds.

The bezel is set with baguette-cut blue sapphires, whose deep color stands out beautifully against the white gold. The pavé-set diamond dial adds a generous amount of sparkle, while the baguette-cut diamonds set into the lugs provide a further touch of refinement. The different cuts and colors work particularly well together, giving the watch a distinctive and sophisticated appearance. A nice detail on the piece is the diamond set crown.

The quartz watch is mechanically straightforward, allowing the attention to remain on its proportions and elaborate gem-setting. Its compact size gives it an unmistakable jewelry-like quality, while the carefully considered combination of stones keeps the design elegant rather than excessive.

Creativity, audacity and know-how are the values that gave Piaget its international reputation and allowed the brand to distinguish itself in the world of fine watchmaking and precision. Founder Georges Edouard Piaget established the company in 1874 and manufactured watch movements. While Piaget is famously recognized today for their elaborate wristwatch and bangle designs, they also mastered the marriage of their high-quality, in-house-produced wristwatches and stunning pieces of jewelry.

Collectors consider the 1970s as Piaget's era of superb creativity and unbounded designs. During this highly creative period, the brand designed an impressive range of cuff and bracelet watches carved in gold and adorned with exotic hard stones. Admired by most as not only jewelry but also true works of art, the firm's hard stone dial watches remain the most iconic, recognizable and desirable among collectors.
