  • Catalogue Essay

Well-received by collectors since its introduction at the Baselworld 2012, the Patek Philippe Regulator ref. 5235 was the firm’s first of its kind. Unique in its own respect, the aesthetics of the timepiece is not just refreshing but extremely well executed.

Although the appeal is a first, an experienced eye may notice the similarities of the case compared among the legendary refs. 3448 and 3540 nicknamed the “Padellone” meaning “frying pan” in Italian. Defined by its sharp edges with brushed casebands and its iconic pointy lugs, the ref. 5235 is truly an understated masterpiece. Elegant, refreshing and technically sound, the movement was especially designed for this reference and is similar in architecture to no other caliber made by the brand. Notably, it is the first serially produced Patek Philippe caliber to incorporate three silicon components developed by the Advance Research department: a silicon escape wheel, a silicon anchor and a silicon balance spring.

Originally only available in white gold with a silver dial, the variation was discontinued in 2018 making way for its new model in pink gold. The ref. 5235R is warm and inviting in contrast to its cool and crisp white gold older sibling. Complemented by the texturized graphite center with a vertical satin finish, the black sub-dials and outer track are accentuated by the pink gold accents on the dial. From its colour treatments to the brushed effect detail, the dial is given a bold appearance that plays with light in a captivating manner.

Offered in “like new” overall condition and complete with its full set of accessories, the present example in pink gold from circa 2019 is a fantastic opportunity for collectors to acquire one at immediate skipping the long waitlist from the boutique.
