  • Catalogue Essay

For those who seeks for more flare on their watches, the ref. 2551 might just be the answer. Produced in all precious case metal: yellow gold, pink gold, white gold and platinum being the rarest, the ref. 2551 cases were made by Wenger. Beautifully sculpted, the contour of the model features a concave bezel that seamlessly transitions to a convex caseband, creating a gorgeous stepped design. Three dial configurations were available for the reference, Applied Arabic 12 with daggered indexes and dauphine hands, diamond set indexes with dauphine hands, and the most simplistic of all, the present stick indexes that matches perfectly with its slim baton hands.

The state of preservation of the present ref. 2551 from 1959 is incredible, not only because of its well-preserved state of the watch: from its defined stepped case with hallmarks intact, beautiful hard-raised enamel dial, to the overall case that has gained a warm patina throughout making its yellow gold richer. It is also complete with its Certificate of Origin, presentation box and all its original invoices from the Dutch Caribbean island, Curaçao. Sold from a beautiful island at Spritzer & Fuhrmann that was decorated with its famous carillons at Gomez Square which attracted numerous tourists, it’s not far stretch to imagine a gentleman who spotted this beautiful timepiece during his vacation on the island. Fresh-to-the-market, the present lot should definitely be on the radar of connoisseurs.
