  • Catalogue Essay

This 30's era Omega deserves to be seen and handled as it is a very executed and nuanced design. It is oversized for its time, and wears broad and thin in a very pleasant way. It has a lovely, tall box crystal that suits the watch perfectly and allows space for the large and beautiful blued hands. Also, notice the carefully arranged square and rectangular pips in the minute track, helping to fill the gap between the sub-seconds and the edge of the case. - Mark Cho

To the new owners of the watches in the sale: The Armoury will custom-make the winner one of The Armoury’s signature garments as a gift. For further details please visit the link below.

    - The late 1930s to the early 1940s was an interesting era for the world of horology.

    - At the time, Omega experimented with an array of chronometers, realised different variants with an abundance of nuances.

    - With Omega's new release in 2022 with the very well-received CK 859 by collectors that celebrates the time-only two-tone sectored dial design. The similarities of the blued steel hands and Arabic numerals is undoubtedly attractive elements that takes inspiration from the present timepiece. Well-preserved bearing a 9.09 million serial, the timepiece from circa 1939 is an elegant gem from the Art Deco Era.

    Omega

    Swiss • 1848

Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.

Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
