Full Moon in Bali pays tribute to the holy nature of the full moon for Hindus in Bali. When the full moon is present, it is considered a special time to worship Ida Sang Hyang Widhi in his manifestation as the God of Brilliance, as the full moon is said to invoke holy light, perfect blessings and gifts. The androgynous dancing figurative sculptures are echoed within the canvas and are a characteristic motif in Nyoman Sujana’s work.

Originally born in Ubud, Bali, Sujana first trained as a painter with the Young Artists tradition of nearby Penestanan where he learnt the repetitive patterns for which local artists are renowned. Since then, he has departed from local artistic traditions and shifted towards a more abstract visual style.
