    Marc Desgrandchamps

Marc Desgrandchamps (b. 1960) lives and works in Lyon, France. Desgrandchamps is a leading
painter of the contemporary French art scene. His application of paint on canvas experiments with
opacity, transparency, and superimposition. The most common subject matter is figures and
landscapes, however the viewer’s perspective of this subject matter is often distorted by the use of
overlap and fragmentation through his painting style.

Marc Desgrandchamps has benefited from several major exhibitions, especially in the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Strasbourg (2004), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon (2004), the
Kunstmuseum in Bonn (2005), the National Museum of Modern Art - Centre Georges Pompidou
(2006), as well as an important retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris
(2011). In 2023, his works are exhibited in several solo shows including the Museum of Fine Arts in
Dijon, the Salomon Contemporary Art Founda tion in Annecy and the Lee Ufan Center in Arles. In
addition, his work is held in many important French institutional collections including FRAC Ile-de-
France - Le Plateau in Paris, FRAC Occitanie - Les Abattoirs in Toulouse, Museum of Contemporary
Art of Lyon, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Les Sables d’Olonne, Museum of Modern
and Contemporary Art of Strasbourg and the Centre National des Arts Plastiques.
