Laurence Montano began his career in the design field as an interior designer and it was not until the 1990s that he paused his interior design practice to experiment with making furniture of his own. While he began his explorations in furniture design by working with plaster, he has since found bronze to be the medium that resonates most with him. The present Massue guéridon is an excellent example of his mastery of the medium. The table leg can be likened to a tree trunk, with the roots of the tree serving as the table’s support, and its bark-like texture creates a visual symmetry with the wooden tabletop. By contrasting materiality and form, Montano is able to produce playfully surrealist designs that are full of life.
