In this piece, fingers intimately interlock but refuse to touch. Kiko Escora employs this image to represent the “very Filipino trait that is coyness”. The title of the artwork, Me Love You Long Time Please Touch Me Not addresses the artist’s exploration of the complex love–hate relationship between the Philippines and the West. Escora critiques how Filipinos pine for the acceptance of Westerners, yet feel self-hatred for such behaviour.

Escora’s artistic practice encompasses a wide range of media, from graphic design and painting to installations and metal sculptures. Bestowed with the Philippines’ Thirteen Artists Award in 2003, Escora is a celebrated artist both at home and abroad. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions globally since the late 1990s. One of his recent exhibitions was held at the Jane Lombard Gallery in New York.

This lot is physically located in the Philippines.
