  • Catalogue Essay

Junzo Sakakura was one of the most famous Japanese architects from the 20th century and has been compared to the genius of designers such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbuiser, and Mies van der Rohe. Sakakura was one of the first architects to combine elements of modernism—which he learned while working in Le Corbusier’s studio in Paris—with traditional Japanese style. His furniture designs reflect this characteristic, as they are low to the ground and incorporate fluid lines and organic forms with a minimalist aesthetic.
