Jessie Homer French is a self-taught artist who paints on themes of death, nature, and rural life. Her frontal compositions, reminiscent of the work of Henri Rousseau and American folk artists like Grandma Moses, belie an emotional intensity of subject matter, whether from a social justice, environmentalist, or deeply personal point of view.
Homer French exhibited in the 59th Venice Biennale, The Milk of Dreams, last year. She is represented by Various Small Fires, with whom she had a solo exhibition, Roots, in their Dallas gallery in 2022. Her work will be featured in the upcoming Hammer Museum Biennial, Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living, Oct. 1-Dec. 31, 2023.
She made her auction debut at Phillips New Now in 2021 with Winds of Heaven, 2012.
