Jemana Murti takes inspiration from his lived experiences and observations as a Balinese artist to create his artworks. A deeply personal piece concerning notions of preservation and heritage, Kalpataru pays tribute to the shifting cultural identity of present-day Bali. Murti is concerned with how Balinese families are grappling with the decision to sell ancestral heirlooms and artefacts to survive. In light of these concerns, Kalpataru interrogates issues surrounding cultural preservation in today’s rapidly changing world.

Graduating from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 2020, Murti is a promising artist whose practice often draws upon his Balinese upbringing. He has participated in several group exhibitions such as The New Now 3: Convergence at Gajah Gallery, Singapore in 2019.
