In My Room, I’ll Heal Again was inspired by the use of plants in medicinal and alternative healing. Although different cultures all over the world have comparable practices, from the lighting of incense to the inhaling and consumption of herbal plants, in Southeast Asia and Latin America plants have played an especially lasting and vital role in healing practices. Israfil Ridhwan employs chiaroscuro to dramatic effect, harking back to the works of Baroque masters in his own artwork, which depicts an anguished human figure.

Graduating from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 2020, Ridhwan has quickly made a name for himself in the Singapore art scene for his warm-hued canvases, which feature Neo-Expressionist poster-like compositions, vivid colours and rhythmic figures. To date, he has presented works in group exhibitions in Singapore and held his first solo exhibition, The Divine Comedy, in 2021 at the Cuturi Gallery, Singapore.
