  • Catalogue Essay

Regarded as one of the great modern watchmakers of our time, F.P. Journe is a watchmaker who combines innovative technical approach with traditional craftsmanship. Established in 1999, production of all timepieces remain in-house since its beginnings.

Inspired by 19th century pocket watches and transformed in wristwatch form, the Chronometre Souvrain pays tribute to old marine chronometer clocks with a specific purpose to be accurate. Launched in 2005, the Chronometre Souvrain was the first F.P. Journe wristwatch to incorporate a guilloche dial which pairs beautifully along with the signature blued steel hands. Powered by the in-house manually-would cal. 1304, the movement is made entirely of 18K pink gold and features a central twin barrel with a combined 56 hours of power reserve.

The present example in pink gold is fitted with an attractive “chocolate” brown dial which matches perfectly with the material of the case. Presented in excellent overall condition and accompanied by the full set of accessories, the present timepiece will most certainly attract the ever growing enthusiast and collectors of F.P. Journe.

  • Artist Biography

    F.P. Journe

    Swiss • 1999

Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
