Good To Know:
- Hi-Beat 30s Tourbillon with 5 day power reserve
- Unique Piece
As Denis Flageollet the co-founder and technical mastermind behind De Bethune has always said “the tradition of watchmaking is innovation”, an ethos that he has always stuck by since 2002 and the brand’s founding resulting in the creation of an impressive 31 calibers and 8 patents in a bit under 25 years!
Flageollet, rather than simply modifying or improving traditional techniques, takes a precise mathematical and scientific approach to case and movement design architecture, manufacturing process, and finishing of each of his watches. All this results in some of the most visually striking and masterful products in contemporary horology.
The present DB29 Tourbillon unique piece is classical in the outside with a grand feu enamel dial and distinctive round case and hunter case back, featuring a completely invisible hinge that evokes not only the timeless allure of 18th-century pocket watches but also the bullet shaped lugs of the early De Bethune pieces, the watch is nevertheless a masterpiece of 21st century horology. Opening the hinged caseback allows one to admire the incredible movement architecture with its fully mirror polished plates and bridges set behind the heat blued parachute. It features a 30-second tourbillon, which is the lightest in the world, weighing a mere 0.20 grams for 63 parts. It also features a silicon balance wheel and escape wheel, the DeBethune proprietary balance spring with flat terminal curve, and a self-regulating twin barrel to ensure constant torque in its power delivery.
The movement further beats at a high frequency of 36,000 VPH or 5Hz as indicated on the dial and features a 5 day power reserve.
Not only does this masterpiece impress thanks to its aesthetic and technical attributes but its collectability hits new heights thanks to its unique status as inscribed on the movement “Piece Unique 1/1”
