Good to know:
- First released in 2004, marking the 15th anniversary of Daniel Roth
- Outsized “Y” series ellipsocurvex case
- Very rare equation of time and number of days in the month indication
In 2000, Bulgari Group acquired Daniel Roth's brand and in 2004, it marked the 15th anniversary of the brand with the ref. 121.Y to commemorate the milestone. The release retains faithful traits of a Daniel Roth timepieces. It is fitted with an iconic guilloché dial, and paired with Breguet numerals which is rarely seen in his creations.
The ref. 121.Y took the classic perpetual calendar complication to a further step, featuring a very rare retrograde equation of time and number of days in the month indication. The equation of time is a rare complication that displays the difference between mean solar time – our civil time based on a conventional twenty-four-hour period – and true solar time, which varies with the earth’s irregular orbit around the sun. Located at the top right corner of the dial is the number of days in the month indication, which is a very innovative and lesser-known complication.
Encased in the “Y” series outsized ellipsocurvex case is the self-winding cal. DR114, with a base movement using the Girard-Perregaux GP3000.
Offered in excellent condition, this ref. 121.Y.40 carries the legacy of Daniel Roth the master watchmaker, and includes innovative complications, making this timepiece is truly special work of art.
