  • Artist Biography

    Dan Graham

    American • 1942

Artist and curator Dan Graham is best known for championing Conceptual Art in the United States. He’s worked in photography, installation, performance, video and the written word over the course of his long and varied career. As a curator, he was the first to show Sol LeWitt’s work, and also exhibited Dan Flavin and Donald Judd. As an artist, Graham frequently uses mirrored materials and circular forms to explore themes of repetition and regression.

Long just as prominent in Europe as in the United States, Graham has shown at the Venice Biennale five times, and had major solo exhibitions in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria, Portugal and other countries. In 2009, a retrospective of his oeuvre traveled from the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, to the Whitney Museum in New York and finally to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
