    - In 1995, Chopard created the in-house L.U.C line of movements named after the company’s founder, Louis-Ulysse Chopard. Today, the highly sought-after L.U.C movement debuted in 1996 inside the L.U.C reference 1860, dubbed the 1.96. The model reference “1860” made to commemorate the company’s year of founding. With the utilization of a 22k micro-rotor, the 1.96 movement achieved an astounding 3.3 mm of thickness, all while incorporating a two mainspring barrels, and a 65 hours of power reserve.

    - The L.U.C line of movements is adorned with some of the highest quality finishing in the industry. The chamfered edges are seen on every bridge and every movement bears the Geneva Seal, alongside COSC chronometer certification for accuracy. A true testament to Chopard’s watching making prowess, the L.U.C line was touted to be one of the best automatic movements created in the 1990s.

    - Shortly after the success of the reference 1860, Chopard introduce a number of variations to the model. The present example, the reference 1862, houses the 4.96 movement, modified to power a center second layout. The example present here has one of the rarest configurations of an incredible deep black dial cased in white gold, a highly coveted combination by L.U.C. collectors.

    Chopard

    Swiss • 1860

At the age of 24, Louis-Ulysse Chopard started his company L.U.C. Chopard in Sonviller, Switzerland. Since the brand's inception in 1860, Chopard understood the need for thin and accurate pocket watches to be functional for daily wear. The brand gained world recognition in 1912 after Tsar Nicolas II became a client.

Following Louis-Ulysse's death in 1915, his sons Paul-Louis and Paul André took over the business and moved their headquarters to La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1963, the company was taken over by Karl Scheufele, who remains the brand's owner. Arguably Chopard's most recognizable design, the "Happy" line, was inspired by Scheufele's daughter Caroline. In 1996, his son Karl-Friedrich established Chopard as a manufacturer of its own range of in-house movements under the name L.U.C., creating groundbreaking, exquisitely finished watches that have earned the brand worldwide acclaim.
