Known to be one of the best Parisan house of luxury to produced radical and playful designs with models that have gained cult-like following such as the Crash, Tank and Cloche. While the term “Reverso” is most often associated with Jaeger-LeCoultre during the 20th century, Cartier also developed and patented a similar system and named it the “Cabriolet Reverso”, later known as the “Basculante” in 1930. Exquisite in design and elegantly framed, the Cartier spin on the reverso operates on a 360 degree vertical axis, allowing the wearer to flip the watch to hide its dial, or even positioned as a mini table clock on the go. The present Cartier Basculante ref. 2405 from circa 2000s exhibits pleasing angular contour and is fitted with an attractive grey patterned dial. Featuring the modern Arabic indexes finished in white and in contrast with the blue cabochon at 12 o’clock, the Basculante is a gorgeous timepiece with style and substance that is perfect for any smart casual attire.

    Cartier

    French

With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.

Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
