  • Catalogue Essay

Recognised as the larger, possibly more audacious sibling of the Royal Oak, the Offshore offers slightly more room for Audemars Piguet to play with bolder designs, colour schemes and strap alternatives. The ref. 15720ST does exactly that, presenting a handsome diver’s utility in a muscular case by giving the Genta-designed Royal Oak a modern twist.

Sporting a staggering wrist presence and augmented proportions, the "ROOD” ref. 15720ST features a vertically brushed stainless steel case, accented with a bezel effortlessly contrasted by its highly polished bevels, and held in place with the iconic hexagonal screws. Nonetheless, the watch’s dial is what makes this specific model stand out. Pairing a navy blue mega tappisserie dial with white gold squared lumed indexes and a matching date aperture at 3 o’clock, this combination sets the stage perfectly for the contemporary timepiece. Fusing form and function, the white gold hour and minute hands on this diver’s watch are also mega-sized, highlighted with lume to enhance legibility. To explain the second crown at 10 o’clock, this feature is used to manipulate the dive timer that surrounds the dial and rotates in parallel with the crown.

Offered at Phillips for the first time, the present example is in “like-new” condition and complete with its original accessories. With its ever-growing demand and a remarkable presence, it would be "ROOD” to pass up this opportunity to acquire a Royal Oak Offshore Diver from the 2021 collection.
