The current lot commemorates a joyous occasion in 1927, when, after the opening of artist Ida Thal’s exhibition in Paris, André Kertész assembled his fellow artists for a spontaneous group photograph. Among the attendees were such luminaries as Adolf Loos, Piet Mondrian and Michel Seuphor, all of whom are pictured on the right side. The photograph was taken nearby, outside an art supply store, anchoring the image in its rightful context and alluding to the creative spirit that unified the group.
