#72 is part of the series MASA – KALA in which the artist draws inspiration from Javanese measurements of time. Shaped by sequences both linear and cyclical, Alexander Sebastianus’s works explore various representations of time that blur into one continuous passage, which “begins to end yet ends to begin.” Woven with 42,524 threads, this series represents calculated movements that allow the artist to intimately engage with the passing of time.

A practicing ethnographer and weaver, Sebastianus’s works explore how material cultures are perceived, understood and ritualised. Currently based in Bali, his works have been exhibited throughout Indonesia in galleries such as ISA Art Gallery, Jakarta. He has also exhibited in Singapore and took part in this year’s Art SG located at Marina Bay Sands.

This lot is physically located in Singapore.
