For many Asian families, food is the language of love. Instead of communicating verbally, love is often expressed by feeding those closest to you. Made at the end of the artist’s STPI residency and shown in the On Time exhibition in September 2021, I Love You (Apple) is part of a series of works comprising laser-etched shadows of cut fruit. By raising the etching of a cut apple, Adeline Kueh creates shadows of the fruit, lending the image of the apple an ephemeral quality that aptly captures the intangibility of emotion.

Kueh is a visual artist who creates works that re-examine the relationship we have with the objects and rituals that surround us. Kueh has exhibited works in Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia, Serbia, Turkey, the Netherlands, the US and the UK. Currently, she is a Senior Lecturer in the MA Fine Arts programme at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore.
