  • Catalogue Essay

Cat’s-eye chrysoberyl is an intriguing gem, marked for its specific visual feature of chatoyancy which is likened to the sheen off a pool of silk. Derived from the fibrous inclusions of rutile within the gemstone, a gem quality cat’s-eye chrysoberyl displays a single sharply defined band of light moving across the stone under concentrated lighting. On top of a distinct chatoyant line, the present cat’s-eye chrysoberyl possesses 'honey-colour', the most desirable hue for a gem cat’s-eye stone.
