Jaeger-LeCoultre has long been revered as a pioneer in the art of complicated watchmaking, seamlessly blending technical innovation with refined aesthetics. Since its founding in 1833, the Swiss manufacture has developed over 1,300 calibers, earning a reputation for engineering some of the most intricate and groundbreaking timepieces in horology.
From multi-axis tourbillons and minute repeaters to perpetual calendars and celestial complications, Jaeger-LeCoultre consistently pushes the boundaries of precision and artistry. With its in-house expertise and relentless pursuit of excellence, the brand remains a cornerstone of haute horlogerie, crafting timepieces that embody both mechanical mastery and timeless elegance.
Lot 69: A Circa 2006 Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyrotourbillon 1 in Platinum
Launched in 2004, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Gyrotourbillon 1 is a remarkable haute horlogerie timepiece, crafted by master watchmaker Eric Coudray and designer Magali Metrailler. At its heart lies the caliber 177, an extraordinary movement comprising 679 individual components and 117 jewels. This sophisticated mechanism boasts multiple complications, including a multi-axis tourbillon, a perpetual calendar with a retrograde date and month indicator, and a leap year display. Additionally, it offers an impressive eight-day power reserve and features a "running" equation of time function, which showcases the difference between solar time and mean time. A small sun-tipped minute hand indicates solar time, occasionally advancing ahead or lagging behind the standard minute hand—both of which synchronize four times a year.
The introduction of the Gyrotourbillon 1 not only reinforced Jaeger-LeCoultre’s status as a haute horlogerie brand but also elevated it to the ranks of elite movement makers. At the time of its debut, multi-axis tourbillon watches were exceedingly rare. This groundbreaking innovation utilizes two carriages operating on different axes and at varying speeds: the outer carriage completes a full rotation every 60 seconds, while the inner carriage rotates every 24 seconds—executing 2.5 revolutions per minute. This intricate design effectively counters gravitational errors in all positions. The mesmerizing speed and fluidity of the spherical tourbillon’s motion captivate and enthrall its wearer.
The present example, numbered 50 in a limited series of 75, remains in excellent condition and is accompanied by its certificate and original presentation box.
Lot 36: A Circa 2020 Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Céleste in 18k White Gold
In 2019, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the limited-edition Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Céleste to commemorate its 15-year partnership with one of cinema’s most prestigious events, the Venice International Film Festival. Elegant, refined, and visually captivating, this exceptional timepiece features a stunning gradient blue dial, highlighted by an orbital tourbillon that completes a full revolution around it. The hour markers and constellations are treated with Super-Luminova, evoking the ethereal glow of celestial bodies against the night sky.
The dial itself presents a breathtaking depiction of the Northern Hemisphere’s night sky, adorned with zodiac constellations encircled by an outer ring displaying their corresponding symbols. Just beyond the orbit of the flying tourbillon, a delicate gold marker completes a full revolution once per year, indicating our position within this alternative and ancient star calendar. Housed in an elegant and contemporary white gold case, the watch is powered by the Caliber 946, a masterpiece of fine watchmaking. Its intricate movement showcases a sophisticated interplay of textures—from satin finishing to micro-blasting and mirror polishing—perfectly complementing the deep blue dial and the warm glow of the ever-moving gold balance wheel.
The present example, dating to circa 2020, is number 02 of a highly exclusive 28-piece limited edition. Preserved in excellent condition, it is accompanied by its Jaeger-LeCoultre warranty dated April 22, 2020, along with its original cloth, instruction manual, fitted presentation box, and outer packaging.
Lot 42: A 2013 Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre Unique Travel Time in 18k White Gold
The Duomètre Unique Travel Time in white gold by Jaeger-LeCoultre is a rare and distinguished creation, limited to just 100 pieces and now discontinued. Designed for the sophisticated traveler, its 42mm white gold case and grained white dial with applied numerals exude timeless refinement. At its heart is the revolutionary Caliber 383, featuring Jaeger-LeCoultre’s groundbreaking Dual-Wing concept, which separates the power source for timekeeping and complications to ensure excellent precision. The dial’s world map motif, coupled with world time, a second time-zone with a jumping hour display, and twin power-reserve indicators, makes this timepiece both highly functional and poetic—a true testament to the brand’s horological mastery.
Numbered 2 of only 100 pieces, it represents a pinnacle of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s craftsmanship. Whether navigating multiple time zones or admiring its refined aesthetics, the Duomètre Unique Travel Time seamlessly blends innovation, elegance, and functionality, making it a prized addition to any collection.
