- Cloisonné enamel dial depicting the red-shouldered hawk inspired by Jean-Jacques Audubon
The present watch stars the red-shouldered hawk. Amongst the birds from the collection, the red-shouldered hawk is offered for the first time at Phillips.
Vacheron Constantin worked closely with some of the best enamellers to create the lively birds, in which some dials could be found with the signatures of Anita Porchet and Muriel Sechaud. The art of cloisonné enameling is extremely time-consuming and challenging, in which only a handful of artisans are capable of doing so. The present enamel dial captures the essence of the tallwoods predator, displaying the distinctive barred reddish-peachy feathers and strong banded tail.
Encased in solid yellow gold, and hidden behind a hinged caseback, the watch houses the ultra-thin cal. 1120/2, a beautifully finished movement that bears the prestigious Geneva Seal. The self-winding rotor is elegantly skeletonized and engraved, showing that the movement is an work of art by its own.
Presented by its original owner, this fresh-to-the-market timepiece has developed a nice warm patina with factory stickers still intact. This limited edition watch is truly a lovely collectible that for sure have been carefully taken care of by its original owner, and is now ready to pass on to the next discerning collector.
Vacheron Constantin
Swiss | 1755The world's oldest watch brand in continuous operation since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin was the first watch company to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts beginning in 1839. Vacheron's watches are admired for their Latin-influenced case designs, well-balanced proportions and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality. The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015.
Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984.
