Good To Know:

- Sought-after UR-100V variant with DLC-coated titanium case and purple accents
- Excellent, hardly worn condition
- Full set of accessories including the purchase invoice

In the autumn of 2019, Urwerk introduced the initial UR-100, striking a fine balance between mechanical intricacy and what many consider the brand's most wearable case profile. Towards the end of 2022, the brand unveiled an intriguing variant: the UR-100V UltraViolet. Featuring a royal purple hue, the watch immediately captivates the eye with its vibrant presence.

The carousels and caseback plate are finished in a matte purple shade, while the DLC-coated titanium case itself radiates a violet hue—achieved through a meticulous sand-blasting process that creates a textured, tactile surface. Beyond its signature satellite time display, the timepiece incorporates astronomical indications that highlight planetary movement. An aperture between 9 and 11 o'clock displays the 555 kilometers traversed by a person standing at the Earth's equator during a 20-minute span. Meanwhile, an indicator at 2 o'clock tracks the distance the Earth travels along its orbit around the Sun over the same timeframe—approximately 35,742 kilometers.

Powering the watch is cal. 12.02, which updates the previous cal.12.01 with subtle refinements, bringing the central aluminum carousel closer to the minute scale to improve overall legibility. Preserved in excellent, hardly worn condition, this rare and visually striking Urwerk timepiece offers a compelling blend of avant-garde design and astronomical concepts.

Urwerk

Swiss | 1997

The Swiss firm's name "Urwerk" is a play on the German word meaning clockwork. "Ur" is an ancient Sumerian city in which the populace used sundials for timekeeping, while "werk" is German for creation. The company started by Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei is known for their innovative avant-garde designs inspired by space travel. With their own take on time indication, like many of their contemporaries, their futuristic timepieces are rooted in high-end traditional watchmaking. Their signature floating method of time indication using rotating satellites traces back to a watch made in 1656. Producing only 150 watches per year, they have impressed connoisseurs with their innovativeness and cutting-edge technical prowess.
